Winter Toronto

Thank you for responding to our 2022 HCT survey and for providing your feedback. Please continue to send us comments and ideas HERE.

On January 25, 45 Harvard Club of Toronto members braved a snowstorm to meet with Ontario’s Lieutenant Governor the Honourable Elizabeth Dowdeswell at Queen’s Park.

Over the nine years she has been LG, Ms. Dowdewell has complemented her primarily ceremonial role by connecting with Ontario government leaders. Meeting Ontarians from every walk of life through about 750 in-person and Zoom engagements a year, she has a special interest in community sustainability – economic prosperity, environmental stewardship, and social cohesion. Ms. Dowdeswell described with enthusiasm the online and touring exhibit Speaking of Democracy, discussing democracy’s strengths and current threats. We also asked her  about representing the monarchy while other countries were withdrawing from the Commonwealth and about King Charles.

Check out the HCT website to see photos of recent events (including our visit to the Lieutenant Governor's suite.) Did you take any photos you’d like to share? Please send them HERE.

Harvard and the Legacy of Slavery

Harvard President Larry Bacow released the "Report and Recommendations of the Presidential Committee on Harvard and the Legacy of Slavery" in 2022. It begins with “Harvard’s motto, Veritas, inscribed on gates, doorways, and sculptures all over campus, demands of us truth.”

As alumni, we too should acknowledge and understand how Harvard's strength today was built on human subjugation and the systems that perpetuated it.
