Why Our Organizations Struggle in a Shifting Risk Landscape (and What They Could Do Better)

The Harvard Club of Toronto is pleased to present:

Courting Catastrophe: Why Our Organizations Struggle in a Shifting Risk Landscape (and What They Could Do Better)

with:

Chris Clearfield, Principal at System Logic

The event is taking place from 12:00-1:30pm, Room L1010 (Lower Level, South Building) at the Rotman School of Management, 105 St. George Street, Toronto.

Chris Clearfield analyzes the financial and regulatory risks in complex areas and devises policies to mitigate risks.

Despite mounting examples of catastrophic failure, from the collapse of Lehman Brothers to BP's Gulf of Mexico oil spill and the Lac-Megantic rail disaster, few organizations think effectively about the dangers and opportunities that catastrophic risks present. In this talk, System Logic principal and writer Chris Clearfield will discuss why catastrophic failures are on the rise even as safety systems increase, why organizations struggle to manage the risk of catastrophic failures, and how research helps us design effective interventions.

Clearfield holds an A.B. from Harvard College, where he studied physics and biology, and is a licensed pilot. for Chris' publications see: www.system-logic.com/overview/.
