Shared event from the HBS Club of Toronto

The Power of Innovation, Storytelling and being an outsider

Tuesday June 13, 2023 | VIRTUAL - Zoom
12:00 PM - 1:00 PM EDT

Stacy Spikes is an entrepreneur and film and music producer, known for his work at Motown Records with Boyz II Men, Queen Latifah, Stevie Wonder, and on films across Miramax, Focus Features, October Films and the Urbanworld Festival. He was also the founding CEO of MoviePass, a subscription-based service that ended up bankrupt. But as with all good stories, there's a lot more to be told, including how Stacy has bought the company out of bankruptcy to relaunch nationwide in the U.S. this May. Stacy is regarded equally as a tech innovator as he is a Hollywood changemaker. He was named one of "25 Most Influential African-Americans in Technology" by Business Insider, and "People to watch in Silicon Valley" by Crain's New York. Stacy's memoire, Black Founder: The Hidden Power of Being an Outsider is a riveting read of a life full of unique experiences and absolute grit.

Jeanne Lam, former president of Wattpad, will be moderating the conversation. Wattpad is Canada's largest consumer tech app used by 90 million people every month to read, write and connect on original stories. Jeanne's career at Wattpad spanned eight years, scaling user and revenue growth, and leading during and after Wattpad's acquisition by Naver Corporation for over $600M in 2020. Her 20 year career has centered around innovative technologies, including 3D printing, mobile payments and ad tech. She's a founding board member of the Coalition of Innovation Leaders Against Racism (CILAR) and is active on boards across Canada where she tries to help others learn from her mistakes.

Please join us virtually on June 13th at 12pm ET for an invigorating conversation.
