Distinguished Leadership Series: Calin Rovinescu, President and CEO of Air Canada

Join the HBS Club of Toronto’s Distinguished Leadership Series for an exclusive event with Calin Rovinescu, President and CEO of Air Canada. Named Outstanding Canadian CEO of the Year for 2016, Calin will discuss the successful turnaround of Air Canada that he has led since being appointed as Chief Executive in 2009. 

In a unique, fireside conversation setting, Calin will also share his views on Canadian business competitiveness and what it takes to succeed in a rapidly changing business world.

Speaker Biography

Calin Rovinescu has served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Air Canada since April 1, 2009. Mr. Rovinescu is also Chairman of the Star Alliance Chief Executive Board and a member and a past chairman of the Board of Governors of the International Air Transport Association. He is a member of the Board of Directors of BCE Inc. and of the Business Council of Canada. From 2004 to 2009, Mr. Rovinescu was a Co-founder and Principal of Genuity Capital Markets.

He first joined Air Canada in 2000 as Executive Vice President, Corporate Development & Strategy, and was Chief Restructuring Officer during 2003-2004. Before 2000, he practiced law for more than 20 years at Stikeman Elliott in Montreal, and belonged to the firm’s Partnership Board and Executive Committee.

Calin received his LL.B. from the University of Ottawa in 1980, his LL.L. from the University of Montreal in 1978, and his D.E.C. from McGill University in 1974. He is a recipient of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal and of Honorary Doctorates from the University of Ottawa, the University of Montreal, the John Molson School of Business at Concordia University and Polytecnica University of Bucharest, one of Europe’s leading engineering schools. He was named the 14th Chancellor of the University of Ottawa in November 2015.

Quarterly All-Ivy+ Pub Night

Join us for an Ivy+ Pub Night on April 12, 2017 from 7:00-9:00 at the Duke of York, 39 Prince Arthur Avenue.

This quarter’s Ivy+ Pub Night is planned by the Penn-Wharton Club of Toronto, the Cornell Club of Toronto, and the Princeton Alumni Association of Canada, Toronto Chapter, and is open to alumni of Brown, Cambridge, Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth, Harvard, MIT, Oxford, Penn-Wharton, Princeton, Stanford and Yale. 

Ticket quantities are limited - register early! In order to ensure that there are enough tickets for alumni who wish to attend, we ask that the invitation be shared with alumni only.

You are cordially invited to join us for an exclusive event of fine wine and food at Wine Academy. This social event is open only to alumni of the local MIT, Harvard College and Harvard Business Club.

Wine Academy is a private club located downtown. We will have the venue to ourselves. Please note that there is no cash bar in the venue. The price of the ticket covers apetizers and alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks of your choice.

Note that the pre-registration closes two days before the event. If you name is not on the guestlist, the concierge will not let you in.
